Is robin hood a good app to use for a newbie in investing?

I want to start investing in stocks to earn money but am completely brand new to this and dont know where to start. I hear good things about robin hood but am a little apprehensive about using it cause I heard that a couple of weeks ago it got hacked and some users lost a lot of money. Is robin hood safe to use and is it a good start for investing? If so, what are some tips to get the best out of investing in stocks?
