How does call order terminology work?

Hello. I am not from USA and when trading on the NYSE I have quite big fees. This is why I have never used call options and mostly just buy stocks. Everyone here seems to use call options but I don't really understand how they work and how they are so profitable. I also don't understand the way they are written (for example 12/25 25$). If anyone could spare a few minutes and explain how that works it would be great. Thanks
